Now that the weather here in AZ has cooled down to give me the luxuries of having open windows overnight and waking up to a cool breeze, I find it harder to get out of bed in the morning. Last Saturday, with nothing work-related to actively think of or act on, I treated myself to a morning of sleeping in. My boyfriend left early at seven to go to work, and as for me, I curled up in bed with my teddy bear. It was so nice. After a week full of stress, it was perfect to let everything go, just be, and not worry about anything. I love it!
Sunday was another relaxing day. Easy breakfast of cereal at home, late lunch at the mall and a movie. Michael Clayton was pretty good.
We picked up some groceries on the way home and cooked a homemade dinner of seared pork chops, with salad and fresh mashed potatoes (not shown).
We munched on the brownies I baked Saturday and downed that with the rest of our chardonnay. We were glued to the TV watching Brothers & Sisters and The Next Iron Chef.
The weekend was too short, darn it. TIll next weekend, I guess.
Cocoa Brownies (Alton Brown’s recipe @ Food Network)
Soft butter, for greasing the pan
Flour, for dusting the buttered pan
4 large eggs
1 cup sugar, sifted
1 cup brown sugar, sifted [I used cane sugar.]
8 ounces melted butter
11/4 cups cocoa, sifted [I used Ghirardelli Unsweetened Cocoa]
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon kosher saltPreheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Butter and flour an 8-inch square pan.
In a mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, beat the eggs at medium speed until fluffy and light yellow. Add both sugars. Add remaining ingredients, and mix to combine.
Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8-inch square pan and bake for 45 minutes. Check for doneness with the tried-and-true toothpick method: a toothpick inserted into the center of the pan should come out clean. When it’s done, remove to a rack to cool. Resist the temptation to cut into it until it’s mostly cool.
I love love love “Stranger Than Fiction”. I neither had any idea what this movie about nor had I read any reviews of it. All I know were the stars in it, and that one of my regular reads (i.e. blogs I read) loved it.
Who hasn’t imagined at one point in their lives that they’re just part of a story being played…a character in a play….y’know what I’m talking about? [Or is it just me, of course…thanks to my lunacy.]
This is one of the best films I’ve seen this year so far, together with Little Miss Sunshine. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I highly recommend it. =)
[* You’ll get this once you’ve seen the movie.]
Watched it last night. Having been one of those people who were initially shocked, (a bit) disappointed, and confused with the choice of the new James Bond actor, I must shamefully retract my unwarranted reactions. Daniel Craig held his own and pulled off his character quite well…very well. I really loved the movie. It was a tougher, rougher James Bond. It wasn’t the pretty-boy movie anymore.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the movie. =)
Ok, enough with this late night update. I am tired.
Blame it on caffeine-induced bodies, I guess. People were actually really nice (knock on wood) at the airport at 5:30am. Helpful, genuinely nice, accommodating…wow. Unbelievable.
Liquids are allowed now, btw, as long as your liquid containers are 100ml or less, you should put all of them (the bottles of liquids, not mix the liquids) in a ziplock bag for all the officers to see. They didn’t let my 500ml purified water bottle through security (so now I know!), so I paid for a tiny bottle of Evian for $2.54. I am bitter, yes. And I drank that water like it was ice cold margarita after a really bad work day.
My flight to Phoenix was bumpy. We encountered a lot of turbulence. They showed “You, Me, and Dupree”. It was ok. We arrived 45 minutes than the expected time of arrival and we actually had to wait for the plane to taxi into an exitway.
We had dinner with my boyfriend’s family, and the kids. Aww. Then we watched “Borat”. Me and D just got back from the movie and are just waiting to chill our chardonnay to end the night.
I’d like to blog more but I’d rather spend the time with D. ;)
